Trautoniks was the name of an event I organised at Bar 303 in Northcote in 2019 for the Australian tour of German trautonium performer Peter Pichler.
Peter is the most accomplished performer in the world on the trautonium, an early electronic instrument invented in Germany in the late 1920s.
Australian composer and multi-instrumentalist Rae Howell and myself collaborated with Peter on an improvisatory set which we quickly rehearsed when the three of us met up for the first time the day before the performance.
The night also included some excellent sets from Michael Mildren and Ehsan Gelsi with Steve Williams.
Following on from the Trautoniks event, Peter and Rae and I have been bouncing files around the world to complete an album of the music we composed and performed together. The Goethe Institut kindly contributed some funding towards the project and the album is expected to be released later this year.
